Innovative team building ideas

What sort of team building event are you attracted to?

Team building events can be a great investment. Since working from home has become quite common, many organisations feel that their teams are fragmented, and are looking for enjoyable, morale-boosting events to bring them back together again. Team building activities encourage communication, collaboration and employee engagement, so are a good option to try.

Our clients seek team-building choices that go beyond conservative icebreakers, and look to us for innovative team building ideas that we can source for their events at Hinxton Hall Conference Centre. We work in close partnership with Zing Events – a London-based team building company that runs indoor, outdoor, and hybrid activities that are fun, on trend, and sure to be remembered.

The conference centre is uniquely equipped to host an array of team building activities. Our beautiful, open and dynamic exhibition space allows for indoor setups, whilst our expansive lawn areas are perfect for outdoor activities.

Here we look at a selection of activities offered by Zing, most of which can be organised for between 10 and 300 delegates.

One for the creatives

Zing’s Urban Art activity is especially popular as it requires teams to be innovative and creative to complete the challenge. Each team is faced with the objective of recreating an urban art version of their very own company logo. You provide your logo and Zing will embed it onto one of their graphically designed backgrounds. The twist is that this masterpiece is divided into several sections and spread amongst the group; it is then a team effort to work together and ensure that the canvas join lines and colour tones are seamless; the finished article makes the perfect art piece to mount back in the office. The activity can last 1-2 hours, depending on your agenda.

Stroke of Genius

One for charity

Putt A Hole In Hunger brings the world of charity, golf and team building into one activity. Teams are tasked with building a mini golf course, the twist is that the golf course is constructed from non-perishable food. This food is then donated at the end of the activity to a local food bank. With thirteen million people living below the poverty line in the UK, this activity really can make a difference. This activity lasts 3 hours, as standard.

One for the competitors

The trading Floor is a great choice! Zing’s authentic simulation of working the world stock markets, will encourage your delegates to use their intuition to succeed in a high energy game of buying low and selling high. Teams allocate roles such as finance manager and investment analyst – not forgetting the Trader – and then swapped throughout, to ensure everyone gets a flavour of each section. When the trading bell rings for the first trading window all eyes are on the trading screen which constantly changes as stock prices fall and rise. There are also live news reports and tweets, which change the dynamic of the market. Each of the trading windows lasts about 20 minutes and the Trader is constantly commenting and referring to developments, maintaining a high level of focus and energy. As the bell rings at the end of the final window, syndicates add up their total value and the winning team is announced. This activity can last 2-3 hours, depending on your agenda.

The Trading Floor

One for the collaborators

Team work makes the dream work, as they say, especially when it comes to Escape the Box. Inspired by the Escape Room phenomenon, the challenge requires teams to work through a myriad of clues in order to ‘unlock’ the next part of the game. They must progress through the 12 sequential stages as quickly as they can, while correctly completing questions and challenges as they go. The challenge keeps teams enthralled as they race against the clock, in this immersive experience. This activity can last 1-1.5 hours, depending on your agenda.

Escape the Box

One for the sport fans

Get your kit and your plimsolls ready for Zing’s take on the old-fashioned sports day with Back to School. Hosted by your very own ‘rather energetic’ and charismatic PE teacher the teams are taken through a warm up session to prepare them for the track. Other games included are tennis, a football shoot out, soft archery and even their own adaptation of a bobsleigh run. See your colleagues racing for the finish line in this up beat, energy-driven team building extravaganza! This activity can last 1.5-2 hours, depending on your agenda, and is appropriate for 24 to 300 delegates.
